A dangerous virus in Poland
Polish experts from the National Institute of Veterinary keep under observation wild and breeding birds. Virus H5N1 has been found in Poland. Recently it has appeared in many European countries such as Italy, France and Germany. In all countries bodies of dead birds are being examined. We are informed to cook poultry as it is proved that high temperature kills the virus.
Since 17 October 2005, in our country farmers haven’t been able to let out their poultry. Unfortunately the majority of farmers belittles this threat. They are excusing themselves that in their private households they don’t have to obey this order and only the owners of big poultry farms should be obliged to do this. Polish government can’t force farmers to keep poultry in hen-cotes because veterinary services don’t have enough people to supervise this and police don’t have the right to this. Polish firms producing poultry products have already lost 20% of their profit. Polish government asserts that we are ready to bird’s flu. Unfortunately the majority of Polish farmers aren’t ready for this because this means a very big loss in their house budget.
