25 th Anniversary of SolidarityThe celebrations of the 25 th anniversary commemorated the workers’ strikes in Poland in 1980. The strikes led to the establishment of the Solidarity Trade Union. The Solidarity movement, which began in Gdańsk, eventually led to historic changes and the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe. In pursuit of democracy, Poles formed the Solidarity Trade Union, the first free trade union in the Soviet – dominated countries in Europe. During the celebrations on
August 26, Gdansk‘s shipyards came
alive again, but this time with a concert led by French musician Jean
Michel Jarre. The cranes "were
dancing" during the music and light show, which
enjoyed a world-wide audience.
In our school an exhibition on Solidarity was held displaying the
eventful period of the Solidarity Trade Unions’ fight for freedom.
